Content Management System (CMS)
Content Management System (CMS)
A CMS, such as Moxie Pages, is a system designed to make updating a website simple for non-technical users. Website administrators can typically log in to a control panel and manage page content and other dynamic aspects of the website. The simplicity or complexity of the CMS can vary greatly.
Email marketing
Email marketing is the process of obtaining email addresses and sending promotional messages to these email addresses. In order to be in compliance with the federal Can Spam Act, the owner of each email addresses must consent to receive messages before they can be emailed. In addition, when emails are sent to the recipients, the nature of the emails must match what the recipient is expecting based on the consent they gave.
Email marketing template
An email marketing template is an HTML template that is used to send emails. An email marketing template typically contains a specific number of editable content areas. Each time the template is used, the editable content area is updated with copy. After the copy is complete and the template is tested, the message can then be sent to the recipients.
Hosting fees
A common solution to the problem of not owning a server is to "lease" a server from a hosting company, such as GoDaddy. There is typically a monthly or yearly fee associated with this service, known as a hosting fee.
Server maintenance fees
There are costs associated with maintaining a server. These costs cover expenses relating to software installation, software upgrades, security updates, etc. These tasks must be performed by a qualified systems administrator, so an individual with this skill set will be necessary before a server can be effectively administered.
Software as a service (SAAS)
SAAS is a type of software development that is characterized by a vendor hosting a web application, such as Moxie Pages, for multiple customers to use. The advantages to SAAS are detailed below.
- Instead of having to build software for a specific customer and maintain that software separately, a single software installation allows for a lower operation cost.
- Traditionally, the customer would host the application and be responsible for maintaining the software after a certain period of time. With SAAS, the vendor is always responsible for maintaining and updating the software, therefore relieving the customer of this responsibility.
- New features can be developed and implemented much more quickly than with traditional software development. This is because a single update to the software affects all users and the need to update multiple pieces of software is eliminated.
Static website
A static website is a website that does not use a content management system. Typically, a static website will contain only HTML files, images, and perhaps Flash files. The content within a static website must be updated manually.
Web strategy
A web strategy is a step-by-step plan that details how your business will build a web presence, or improve upon an existing web presence. The web strategy is recorded within a document and each part of the strategy is listed in chronological order. This document can contain plans for creating an identity, establishing a website, setting up a promotional campaign, etc.
